Brunch at The Stanton Social

Every weekend, friends, family, and couples go through the time-honored tradition of brunch in NYC.

We love catching up over eggs and mimosas, but hate waiting outside in the cold for a possible table.

So when our friends offered to come into the city to meet us for brunch, we decided to go to The Stanton Social.  Not only do they offer a continuous stream of small sharing plates (similar to going out for tapas or dim sum) but they also allow online reservations for brunch.

Our favorite plate was the Warm Doughnuts with Caramel ($8).

 

Each large doughnut hole was warm, light, and puffy.  The sweet caramel was smooth and nicely coated the doughnuts.

Warm Banana Walnut Bread with Cinnamon Butter ($7):  The bread was good - very warm and comforting.

But having been spoiled with complimentary bread baskets at other restaurants, we felt that other dishes would have been better values (i.e. we would've gone with another round of those doughnuts!)

 

Caramelized Banana Pancakes ($8) with candied pecans, vanilla brown butter, and maple syrup.  These pancakes were light and fluffy.

 

Stanton Social Sliders with homemade potato chips:

Sausage, Biscuit, and Gravy ($6) - Our friends loved these sliders!  The sausage was juicy while the biscuit was flaky.

Koby Philly ($9) with truffle and goat cheese fondue was rich in earthy flavor.  The meat was very tender, while the truffle oil in the sauce seemed very generous (you could definitely smell and taste it!)

 

Red Snapper Tacos ($10):  These tasty tacos came with creamy avocado and spicy mango.  They were crispy and filled to the brim with fresh flavor.

 

French Onion Soup Dumplings ($12):  This was the most unique presentation of French Onion Soup we have ever encountered. 

 

All of the components of French Onion soup are there:  crouton on top, melted cheese all around, with onions and soup encased in a soft, bite-sized package.

Old School Meatballs ($12) with basil and ricotta manicotti had all of the flavors of a good Italian dish.

The Stanton Social is a great spot for 4-6 people.  It can get pricey for brunch as it's tempting to keep ordering (we roughly paid $25 each), but it was fun trying a lot of the different small plates.
