Tasting Things to Do in New York This Weekend

Hungry? Buy tickets ($25) to this Saturday's 4th Annual Great Hot Dog Cook-off held at 529 Waverly Ave in Brooklyn. Not only do you get to sample and vote amongst the 19 amateur hot dog gourmands, but all proceeds from ticket sales go towards City Harvest. And of course, what goes well with creative franks? Free beer courtesy of Kelso Brewery.

Thirsty? This Saturday, Rattle 'n' Hum (14 E 33rd St) will be hosting 3 craft breweries (Sixpoint, Captain Lawrence, and Dogfish). With 6-12 taps and 2-4 casks per brewery on hand, you'll be able to decide for yourself which craft brewery reigns supreme. The battle of the beers starts at 5 pm. No reservations are necessary.

In need of a cool sweet treat? Stop by Murray's Cheese Shop (257 Bleecker St) this Sunday from 1-4 pm for sundaes ($5) made with Van Leeuwen ice cream, Knipschidt dessert sauces, and Hail's Family Farm house-whipped cream. No reservations are needed and you'll also get to meet Ben Van Leeuwen (yes, the ice-cream founder!) and chocolatiere Fritz Knipschidt.
