Why? Not only do they make great desserts, they serve them for all three-courses. Oh, and did we mention that they also pair the meal with wine?
It's no wonder this no-reservations restaurant often has a line outside its door!
Sitting at the counter gives us the best view of the kitchen...we love watching the pastry chefs work their magic!
The amuse bouche of grapefruit sorbet and ginger gelee: This was very refreshing as the grapefruit sorbet was tart and the ginger gelee, though subtle, had a nice light texture.
Of course we opted for the wine pairing! At left was the sweet Alvear Pedro Ximenez 2004 and at right was the fizzy Moscato d'Asti, La Spinetta 2007.
Fromage Blanc Island "Cheesecake": This is one of Chikalicious' signature dishes (it's one of two constants in an ever changing menu). We love the absolute lightness and creaminess of this cool, melt-in-your-mouth dish.
Brown sugar panna cotta with granny smith apple sorbet and frosted walnuts.
We loved the nuttiness of the panna cotta along with the sharp tart taste of the granny smith apple sorbet.
Preparing our final course...
Petit Fours of White Truffle with Cocoa (decadent), Quantro Buttercream Tartlette (a nice mix of textures between the cream and the crunch), and Homemade Coconut Marshmallow (very light and fluffy like a cloud!)
Chikalicious is located at 204 E. 10th Street (btwn 1st and 2nd Aves).
