After attending the Chocolate Show, I stumbled upon the Limelight Marketplace. It's a marketplace that used to be a nightclub - that used to be a church. The marketplace is filled with fashion and food booths. The space itself is beautiful, with some stained glass windows and vaulted ceilings. The layout does not make it easy to get around - especially if there's a crowd. So luckily it was fairly empty when I visited on a Thursday afternoon and I headed straight for the Sweet Room (a hallway of sweet treats).
The Little Candy Cake Company immediately caught my eye. Cute little confections were neatly displayed everywhere!
These solid pure chocolate mini cakes that I think would be perfect for showers, tea parties, wedding favors, themed birthday parties (the Alice in Wonderland "eat me" cake on the left is so cute), or lovely gifts.
My favorite chocolate piece of art was the sparkly red apple. Wouldn't it be perfect for a Snow White or Twilight-themed party?
Next to The Little Candy Cake Company is Mari's New York, whose renowned brownies are found at Barneys and Bergdorf Goodman. Their most popular brownie is the Caramel Sea Salt one, but those Caramel Sea Salt Crispies look fantastic too.
Love the whoopie pies by WannaHaveAcookie! Though they're available online, the marketplace is currently the only bricks-and-mortar location for these whoopie pies. Their most popular flavor is red velvet, but right now, I'm loving their seasonal Pumpkin Whoopie Pie with Maple filling. Wander around the Sweet Room with your treat in hand and take a look at the fun cakes designed by Butterfly Bakeshop. Then grab a cup of gelato from Baci Gelato.
Cupcake Stop has its first bricks-and-mortar store here with more cupcake flavors available (doesn't the Elvis flavor with peanut butter and banana look good?) and easier to catch than their Cupcake Stop food trucks. It'Sugar - from co-founder of Dylan's Candy Bar and owner of Fao Sweets - is a small candy shop found on the first floor. There wasn't anything here that you couldn't find elsewhere, but still fun to look around. There were also cute, retro-printed chocolates from SoHo chocolatier Maribelle.
Not into sweet treats (like my husband)? There's also a cheese shop inside and eventually a Grimaldi's is supposed to open here. Limelight Marketplace is located at 47 W 20th St (at 6th Ave) in NYC.
