Calexico Cart

When we heard that we could find cheap and fantastic food in Soho, we were intrigued. And we weren't the only ones. We went to Calexico on a Friday afternoon, and there was already a long line to order in addition to the small crowd waiting for their food.

Calexico is the brainchild of three brothers from Southern California. Their fresh Mexican food definitely have a loyal following. Unfortunately, we got there 2 hours after they opened, and they had sold out of their pulled pork. However, we weren't going to walk away from 2008's Vendy Award winner empty-handed!

Finishing touches on a couple of tacos.

Steak and Burritos prepared before us.

Pollo Asado Burrito ($7): Hearty and tasty, this burrito filled with rice, beans, chicken, cheese, pico de gallo, and avocado crema, made for a very satisfying lunch.

Calexico Carne Asada Burrito ($8): The steak was grilled perfectly as the meat was nice and tender. It also came with rice, beans, pico de gallo, and avocado crema in a fresh tortilla.

Calexico Carne Asada taco ($4): The wonderfully tender hanger steak in taco form with tomatoes, lettuce, pico de gallo, and avocado crema. It was a tasty snack!

Pollo Asado taco ($3): The chicken was good, not overcooked or rubbery. It also came with the tomatoes, lettuce, pico de gallo, and avocado crema.

The food was fantastic and we look forward to getting there a little earlier to try out the pulled pork.

Calexico
cart is located at the corner of Wooster and Prince Sts. There is also an express cart (burritos only) at Broadway and Broome Sts.
