The Les Charmes Macon-Lugny Chardonnay 2007 from the Maconnais region of Burgundy in France is an affordable everyday white. We picked this up for $9 online at Cabrini Wines, one of the better wine shops in Manhattan.
This 'baby Chablis' is a good choice to drink with friends as an aperitif or with light fare or raw bar. It's fresh and easy drinking, citrusy, with subtle oak and mineral notes and is a nice alternative to the cheap California oak-bomb Chardonnays. An ideal pick for summer, it's best when chilled.
We suggest giving the wines of the Maconnais region a try even if you are not a typical Chardonnay fan (we're not, but we like this one). These wines are usually a best buy as they are ready to drink. If you can find them at a good price, pick one up. You will be surprised.
