Superdawg - Chicago, IL

Today is the Friday before the Labor Day long weekend, so we thought it would only be appropriate to celebrate the American staple, the hot dog, or more specifically, the Superdawg.

While we were in Chicago, we headed out to visit one of the 1000 Places to See Before You Die.  Since 1948, Superdawg has been selling its pure beef hot dogs in a funky environment: an authentic drive-in complete with outdoor "Order Matic" speakers (looks like a gas pump, but features the complete menu and order button).  A waitress delivers your tray of food - and when you're done, just flip the switch and she'll come back to take the tray away.  (Being in a rental car though, we opted to dine inside).

Maurie (with his glowing red eyes) and Flaurie beckon you to Superdawg drive-in.
Doesn't this look good? We ordered the Superdawg with a chocolate milkshake.  The milkshake ($3.95) was so decadent, rich, and thick!
What makes a Superdawg ($4.95)? Buried underneath the crispy Superfries, hot peppers, onions, mustard, piccalilli (bright green relish), and kosher dill pickle is the 100% pure beef Superdawg. This was really good and satisfying - not as innovative and gourmet as Hot Doug's, but we didn't have to wait at all.
Superdawg is located at 6363 N Milwaukee Ave. in Chicago, IL.
P.S.  We also found Superdawg in the Midway airport so we grabbed another before our flight home.  It was an average hot dog, but an inferior (and more expensive at $6.99) Superdawg.  Though many other items were on the menu, we could only order the Superdawg (other items would take 15 minutes or more to make and the milkshake machine was not working).
