The Red Cat: A Throwback to the Good Old Days

In the heart of Chelsea's art gallery neighbourhood sits The Red Cat, a great spot for some well-made drinks and good old fashioned hospitality. The service is usually pretty good. The bar area is a fun casual area to grab a pre-dinner drink with complimentary raw radishes with salt.

There was a decent selection of wine by the glass.
We had a glass of the 2006 Trou De Bonde Grenache Blanc Santa Ynez Valley ($12): It was aromatic with a subtle minerality, and not too much ripe fruit. It is a good, white Rhone-style wine from California.

We also had a classic Manhattan ($11), great preparation (straight up) and not weak (just the right amount of vermouth).

Aperol Royale ($11): This was a cocktail mixed with aperol and prosecco. The aperol was a little too sweet for us.

Bitburger ($7): A light, German-style Pilsner.

Salmon Tartare ($12): With sesame crisps, the salmon was tasty and fresh.

Zucchini ($10): Garnished with toasted almonds and pecorino cheese. This is one of our favourites at the restaurant. All of the textures work well together.

Bitter Greens ($12): Light and refreshing.

Sweetbreads ($13): These sweetbreads were nice and crispy. We definitely could have ordered another round!

Duck ($28): The duck was perfectly prepared - tender, medium rare, and not too salty. The sugar peas were crisp and the mandarin oranges complemented the duck.

Organic Chicken ($23): The chicken's skin was crispy and the meat was rich. There was a nice rustic taste to the (very large) chicken dish.

Pork Tenderloin ($23): Hearty and not overcooked, the pork was tender. It had a crispy crust with a nice glaze outside.

Salmon ($24): The fish was cooked medium and had a wonderful fresh flavour. The salmon was on top of mashed potatoes, mushrooms, and greens that were tasty as well.

The Red Cat is located at 227 10th Ave. (between 23rd and 24th streets)
