Diners and Dives Week: Healthy Eats at Moondance Diner (Chicago area)

On our travels, we will often stop off at local diners and dives for some of the best cheap eats in the area.

For the next few days, we revisit some of our favorite diners and dives (and would love to hear about your treasured finds!).

Our first stop is the Moondance Diner in Burr Ridge, IL (outside Chicago).  Where most diners are thought of as greasy spoons, the Moondance Diner offers healthy eats and drinks like the Moondance Signature Strawberry-Mango-Orange Juice (large, 16 oz, $3.49), various egg white and whole wheat dishes (without additional substitution costs!)

Crabby Benny ($9.89):  Crab cakes with poached eggs, sliced tomato, and avocado on an English muffin, with Hollandaise and fresh fruit on side.  The eggs were perfectly runny and the fruits and vegetables were bright and fresh.  The crab cakes were meaty too.

Our friend got the Jessica Ahn's Benny ($7.99) which included 2 poached eggs with sautéed spinach, artichoke hearts, tomatoes, and mushrooms, on top of grilled English muffin.  She also got some hash browns with her dish.  All of the vegetables were well-seasoned and made for a nice medley of flavors.

Blue Sensation ($6.29):  Wheat germ, pecans, blueberries in whole wheat pancakes (the healthiness was offset by a side of breakfast sausage).  These pancakes were hearty, tasty, and satisfying.

Fun decor.

Moondance Diner is located at 78 Burr Ridge Parkway in Burr Ridge, IL.
