East Village's Porchetta - Celebrating the Pig!

Porchetta is a small take-out spot that specializes in well, porchetta (an Italian preparation of pork. Layers of stuffing, meat, fat, and skin are rolled, spitted, and roasted, traditionally over wood).

Upon entering Porchetta, you can see the pork slow cooked in a combination steam and dry heat oven.

The small menu include a few sides as well as a vegetarian sandwich option.

We chose to have the Porchetta sandwich ($9). The ciabatta bread was tasty (it's from Sullivan Street bakery, of course!) and the pork was juicy. The herbs lent a nice subtle flavour to the meat. We had to be careful not to break a crown on the crispy pork skin. Though it was small (we were still a little hungry after having this sandwich for lunch), it was pretty good porchetta.

Porchetta is located at 110 East 7th St. (between 1st Avenue and Avenue A)
