We recently became members of foodbuzz, an online social networking site for foodies (check it out by clicking the ad on the right sidebar). Last night, we were lucky enough to score a seat at the community table (sponsored by VISA Signature) held at David Burke's Fishtail restaurant. We met with writers from our favorite websites like Midtown Lunch and Blondie and Brownie and found out about more blogs to check out (see end of post for our list) from our fellow foodbuzzers.
Lots of hors d'oeuvres and cocktails! (clockwise: Bread basket, prosciutto-wrapped asparagus, escargot wrapped in chicken, tuna tacos, California and tuna sushi rolls, mini burger with pesto-garlic fries, Swedish fish from the signature Red Snapper cocktail, and oysters with tapioca).
David Burke makes an appearance, speaking with our party's organizer, Ryan Stern, Director and Managing Editor of Foodbuzz. At right is our dinner menu.
Dry Roast Angry Mussels with chili oil, basil, and lemon.
Warm Octopus with hearts of celery, avocado, and lemon garlic aioli.
Pretzel Crusted Crabcake with confit orange and poppyseed honey. We loved the playfulness of the dish. The sweet and salty flavors played well off each other and the crabcake was meaty without being heavy.
Pan Roasted Diver Scallops with sweet corn and lobster risotto and citrus butter. We liked how the citrus of the grapefruit offset the richness of the scallops. The risotto was a bit too heavy for us.
Roasted Branzino with Asian mushroom vinaigrette. This was a nice simple but earthy and hearty dish. We loved the rustic flavors including capers and chopped tomatoes.
Pan Roasted Wild Salmon with braised bok choy and two curries.
Dessert! Instead of just one dish, we got to try all of our dessert options. Like kids in a candy store, our eyes lit up with all of these fun sweet treats.
Clockwise from top left:
Chocolate Caramel Cake with chocolate mousse, "cracker jacks" and delicious peanut butter ice cream; egg beaters with chocolate frosting,
Cheesecake Lollipops with raspberries and Bubblegum whipped cream;
"Can o' Cake" molten chocolate cake - eaten with vanilla bean ice cream and egg beater chocolate frosting;
Lots of red wine (Palo Alto Reserve 2006 from Chile - a blend that we could definitely taste syrah in it with a bit of cabernet. It had lots of red fruit - tasted like raspberry and cherries with a bit of black pepper.); and finally,
Peaches & Cream of white chocolate pudding, Georgia peaches, and strawberry sugar wafers.
It was a fun night and we cannot wait for the next event!
Fishtail is located at 135 E 62nd St (btwn Park and Lexington Aves).
