We love oysters and every local we knew had recommended Acme Oyster House, a casual and inexpensive restaurant. We were told that there would likely be a long wait since the restaurant does not take reservations, but we were lucky enough to walk right in (after a minute while they were cleaning a table for us).
Chargrilled oysters are constantly made to order.
Our cocktails!
Mojito ($6.25): Bacardi superior, mint, lime, and club soda
Killer Buzz ($6.75): Malibu coconut rum, Blue curacao, Sierra mist, and pineapple
Acme Sunset ($5.50): Bacardi superior, creme de banana, pineapple juice, orange juice, and cranberry juice.
Dozen Chargrilled Oysters ($16.99): Topped with butter and romano cheese, these were tasty and incredibly popular.
1/2 dozen oysters ($7.49): Fresh and creamy - at $1.25 a piece, they were a great value. These were easy oysters (not too minerally).
Bowl of Gumbo ($6.99)
Cup or bowl, we all decided to get gumbo with our meals.
New Orleans Medley ($11.99): A cup of gumbo, jambalaya, red beans & rice, and grilled smoked sausage. It was nice to have a sampling of all of the traditional New Orleans' dishes. The food was comforting, and with all of the rice, very filling.
Half Po-Boy and Gumbo ($11.99): Shrimp Po-Boy dressed with lettuce, tomato, and pickles.
This was definitely the spot for oysters! Now we know why this place is packed with tourists and locals.
